Description | Against a background of wars between their two countries, British and French explorers and scientists laid the basis for the scientific discovery of Australian botany. Inverawe sits on North West Bay, first mapped and named by the French under D’Entrecasteaux. The French botanist, Labillardière named hundreds of Australian plant species. In 1802 Nicolas Baudin’s French ships were anchored off Dru Point, in line of sight. The Scottish botanist, Robert Brown, was here too and also described hundreds of Australian plant species. Come to Inverawe and see some of the plants they named and hear the stories of how progress emerged from conflict. Includes afternoon tea. |
