While his mates were desperately evacuating their sinking warship, Teddy turned back to his 20mm anti-aircraft gun and went down with the ship firing at the swarming Japanese aircraft. He was a young Tasmanian determined to do his best to save his mates, in an action worthy of a VC. No member of the Royal Australian Navy has been awarded a Victoria Cross.
