Australian service personnel have been involved in 98 different theatres of engagement since 1945, and the Evandale History Society was keen to remember them all.
The Evandale History Society recently erected a new memorial in recognition of all personnel who served in the many conflicts outside the world wars, including Korea, Malaya, Indonesia, Vietnam, Somalia, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The memorial was erected near the Memorial Hall in High Street, Evandale.
Evandale has also unveiled a “Lest we forget” mural painted by Stephen Baldock that features a central figure with troops landing on one side of the mural, and troops being carried away on stretchers on the other side. The mural is12 metres long by 3.1 metres in height.
Most of the funding for the mural was raised by the Evandale History Society and Evandale Rotary Club, with a Small Commonwealth Grant and a lot of voluntary help.
The Evandale Historical Society received a War Memorial Repair and Maintenance Grant 2012-2013 from the Department of Premier and Cabinet to replace the flagpole.
